Ferry Service Update About Shut Down

Guemes Ferry Winds

Update May 23, 2017 at 10:20 PM

After over three hours of being shut down, the weather has finally come down enough for the ferry to resume service. We are making a run to Guemes Island right now, and we were able to take everyone who had been waiting on the Anacortes dock. If you are in Anacortes, and you need to get back to Guemes, please head to the ferry terminal immediately so that we can get you home.

Update May 23, 2017 at 9:53 PM

We believe the weather is starting to calm down a bit in the Guemes channel. It is still too rough to load vehicles; however, we are really hoping this will change in about another 30 minutes. We really appreciate your patience, and I will send another update in 30 minutes. I am hoping to be able to give you some better news soon.

Sincerely,

Captain Rachel Rowe

Since approximately 6:45 p.m. this evening, the Guemes Island Ferry has been shut down due to weather. As of right now, the 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., runs have been canceled. There is a strong westerly wind and an ebb tide creating unsafe conditions in the channel. There is a tide shift around 9:00 p.m. and we are hoping this will provide a change in conditions; however, exactly when that might happen remains an unknown. The marine weather forecast is calling for the seas to lay down a bit, but not until after midnight.

We understand there are people in Anacortes that need to get home. Our plan is to make a run as soon as it is safe to do so, and to make as many runs as necessary once we can start operating again. Unfortunately, we do not know when that will be. We will continue to send updates so that you will know what is going on. I wish I had better news for you all; please know that we will do our very best to get everyone home.

Sincerely,

Captain Rachel Rowe
