Skagit County Ferry Replacement Project – BUILD Grant Update

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the 2018 BUILD grant awards Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018. A total of $1.5 billion in discretionary grant funding was awarded to 91 projects in 49 states. This year’s program was highly competitive; according to DOT’s website, 851 eligible applications were submitted from all 50 states requesting over $10.9 billion in funding. Unfortunately, Skagit County was not awarded funding in this round of the BUILD grant program. However, the Guemes Ferry Replacement Project is still a priority for Skagit County, and we plan to move forward in 2019 with preliminary and contract design with Glosten. We will continue to seek funding and apply for future federal and state grant opportunities. More information about the 2018 BUILD Grants is available at transportation.gov/BUILDgrants, and a list of 2018 BUILD awards can be found here.

Sincerely,
Captain Rachel Rowe
