Will there be a second 11:15 a.m. sailing
Will there be a second 11:15 a.m. sailing?
That’s a question that is asked a lot, and at a recent meeting between the Guemes Island Ferry Committee and Skagit County Public Works, there was a discussion about that very question. The Ferry Committee, and attendees at the meeting, informed Public Works that ferry riders have no way of knowing if there will be a second 11:15 a.m. run (double run) because the only notification is posted at the ferry docks. The Ferry Committee suggested a method for notifying folks who may not be at the terminals to read the signs.
This was a great suggestion, and the ferry crew had recommended that we put a no double sign in view of the webcam. So, that is exactly what we did. Our Skagit County Sign Shop guys were out this week to create and install a new sign that you can view from the ferry webcams at skagitcounty.net/Departments/PublicWorksFerry/ferrycams.htm.
So, how do you know if there is a second 11:15 a.m. sailing?
A green triangle-shaped sign that reads, “2 SAILINGS 11:15 AM RUN” means there will be a double run.
A red triangle-shaped sign that reads “1 SAILING 11:15 AM RUN” means there will not be a double run.
Please note that we will continue to post the usual signs at both ferry docks as well.
The suggestions made by the Ferry Committee, citizens and the ferry crew are much appreciated. We hope this new sign helps our riders plan ahead.
Sincerely,
Captain Rachel Rowe
